Pirates first defeat in CIFFA League

Saturday, August 26, 2006

Week seven of the CIFFA Red Bull flag football league got off to a hectic start as the Lone star Hell Cats took on Papa John's.

The Hell Cats showed no mercy, scoring six touchdowns to take the win 40-8. Hell Cats quarterback Jacob Ebanks completed 11 passes and threw five touchdowns. Jorge Ebanks completed three of them, Clay Coleman and Perry Levy made the other two.

Linebacker Craig Frederick returned to the Papa John's line-up, hauling in six tackles and one sack. Quarterback Kareem Robinson also joined the team, producing some Papa John's best passing of the year and ending the game with 11 completions, one touchdown and two interceptions.

The day's second game pitted the WestTel Giants against the Next Level Nitemares. The Nitemares, led by quarterback John Mack, went into this game with a lot to prove. John completed 14 passes and made the Nitemare's only touchdown. Giants quarterback Brad Berger completed nine passes, three of them to Rusty Smith. At the final whistle Nitemares just failed to take the win, losing by 7-6.

Maples woes continued in the third face off of the day against One 345. Their opening drive was intercepted by One345's Rhys Ebanks and, starting a series of plays which earned him the Player of the Week title, he ran 20 yards to get the first touchdown. Maples fought back throughout the game, their quarterback Kenny Litrico showing great potential, but the final score gave One345 the win 20-0.

Closing the afternoon's action, AL Thompson's Hammers came out to play Davy Jones Locker Pirates.

Pirates are the last undefeated team in the league but were playing with regular quarterback Carlo Ylagan replaced by Colin "Kobidog" Wilson.

In a tight game Pirates defence simply stopped the Hammers, 10 passes from their quarterback Kevin Soloman failed to make one touchdown.

In the end a small mistake by the Pirates gave the Hammers a 2-0 win and cost the Pirates their undefeated crown.

Rhys Ebanks from One345 was voted Player of the week. In a comeback from a poor week six performance, he made the opening touchdown against Maples then recorded five tackles, one sack and an interception during the 20-0 victory.

The final scores from week seven were Papa John's v Lone Star 8-40, WestTel v Next Level 7-6, One345 v Maples 20-0 and Davy Jones v ALT 0-2.

Current player are quarterback Carlo Ylagan (121.94), wide receiver Jorge Ebanks (78) and in defence Chester Hurlstone (41).

The week eight line up will be played on Saturday 26 August starting at 1.00pm with AL Thompsons v Coconut Joes, at 2.15pm Maples v Lone Star followed at 3.30pm by Next Level v Davy Jones and Papa John's v WestTel at 4.45pm.
