I read the Hon Alden McLaughlin's statement about 'Caymanians' resentment towards ex-pats and I must say I wholly agree with his assessment of the situation.
Furthermore, I believe he is right when he says that Caymanians feel overwhelmed at the speed of Cayman's population growth and I will state he is correct when he said something has to be done before the resentment turns ugly.
Cayman is too small to absorb all these people in such a short period of time. Also, if the trend continues we (Caymanians) will be outvoted on all things related to how Cayman moves forward in the future, if there is a future.
If Cayman cannot come to some accommodation to satisfy both Caymanians and ex-pats these islands will surely create conflicts between the two.
I must congratulate Mr McLaughlin for recognising the problem and also having the guts to say it publicly. Although I support this paper I must say I see a tinge of one-sidedness in its editorials.

Editor's note: Mr Powell is correct that there is an element of "one-sidedness" in our editorials because they are, after all, an expression of opinion, which by its very nature tends to fall on one side of an issue or the other. We emphasise, however, that we are not in opposition to the government as a matter of principle, just the rollover policy, in respect of which we will continue to express a "one-sided" opinion. Nevertheless, our letters pages are, as always, open to any reader who wishes to express their own opinion on this or any other issue.
