Aqua Beach played host to the latest road show from local Radio station Z99 last Friday evening with the presenters of the Breakfast Buzz and a special appearance of Cayman's NASCAR and its driver Donnie Neuenberger.
By 5:30 pm the bar was the busiest on the West Bay Road with a steady influx of customers lured in by the promise of cheap drinks and free appetizers.
Overseeing proceedings were the presenters of Radio Z99's Breakfast Buzz, Kenny and Accalia, who were also broadcasting live from the event. Between broadcasts the radio duo flitted from table to table chatting to guests and although they were clearly working they gave the impression that it was far more than their contracts that had brought them out.
"It's a great opportunity for us to meet our listeners" said Accalia "and to interact with our audience" added Kenny.
The Breakfast Buzz airs each morning from 6:00 am until 10:00 am and is aimed at entertaining Cayman residents stuck in the early morning traffic.
"It's all about the laughs and just having fun," Kenny added.
It's easy to believe the duo when they say that the laughter begins long before the microphones are switched on and that same sense of fun was present in the atmosphere at Aqua Beach even though things were wrapped up at the early hour of 7:00 pm.
Happy hour at Aqua Beach runs from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Fridays and on this particular occasion it was not the liquor-soaked party sometimes associated with a happy hour promotion, quite the opposite in fact with families making up a large proportion of the visitors.
One reason for the presence of these families, and more specifically the children, is the appearance of NASCAR driver Donnie Neuenberger.
Donnie spent the evening signing autographs, posing for pictures and even giving pointers to a few lucky fans who got the chance to sit behind the wheel of the 220mph racing car that he brought with him for the event.
The same car has already raced at several meetings this year, including Daytona, and Donnie hopes that with further support and sponsorship he and his team can race every week.
Both the radio presenters and NASCAR driver made the time to chat to everyone which helped create a friendly ambience round the bar and promoted a very laid back atmosphere throughout the whole venue.
Although the bar was not full to capacity, those who had turned up were clearly there to have a good time.
