I am extremely concerned about the situation of a so-called ‘obeah’ being prosecuted in a modern court of law.
This is something that Government should immediately step in to stop. If there is still an absurd law on this country’s books that suggests we can prosecute women for being witches, we need to remove it now.
Whatever this woman has allegedly been doing in the name of some so-called ancient ritual does not belong in a modern court of law. I truly believe that by pursing this case the Government as represented by the judiciary are following a very, very worrying path something that all people of the Cayman Islands should be duly concerned.
It is one thing to uphold Christian morals within a country and it is quite another to prosecute those who follow a different religious practice or faith.
This illustrates the problem of not completely separating religions and faith-based ideology from state Governance.
Someone should do something now.
