With Christmas on its way the locally based Tortuga Rum Cakes Company is facing a busy time that is bound to be helped by the company’s products hitting the headlines around the United States.

Reader’s Digest calls the cakes  “Outrageously Good” and Computer Games says that even the name “screams ‘pirate’ - and therefore ‘gamer gift’.”

Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cakes, the number one export of the Cayman Islands, are featured in the December issues of these diverse publications’ Holiday Gift Guides, as well as in a special promotion in the gourmet food magazine Bon Appetit.

The Supermarket Guru, Phil Lempert chose Tortuga Coconut Rum Fudge as a winner in his “Hits and Misses” feature in the November issue of Gourmet Retailer, saying “this fudge is nothing less than rich and delicious. a treat reminiscent of the most indulgent of times.”

Tortuga Taste of Florida Rum Fudge also was pictured in the 2007 Gourmet Gift Guide in the November issue of Fancy Food & Culinary Products.

In the November issue of Entrepreneur magazine, Monique Hamaty-Simmonds is quoted in an article on entrepreneurs using mobile technology along with her photograph - holding a Tortuga Caribbean Rum Cake, of course.

“We appreciate this press coverage and the opportunity to introduce more people to our delicious rum cakes, fudge and other gourmet products,” said Ms Hamaty-Simmonds, the president and CEO of the Tortuga Rum Cake Company, whose father Robert Hamaty started the business in the Cayman Islands more than 20 years ago.

“With a circulation of over 10 million people, Reader’s Digest is one of the most-read publications in the United States. And we are one of the lead products in their feature article ‘Great Gifts Under $50’.”

Founded in 1984 by Robert Hamaty and his wife Carlene, the Tortuga Rum Company, Ltd. is a family owned and operated business based in Grand Cayman, B.W.I. with 16 retail shops and three bakeries and franchise bakeries in Jamaica, Barbados and the Bahamas. Tortuga Imports/Tortuga Rum Cake Company handles worldwide distribution, food service, mail order and online sales from Miami, Florida.
