Local radio station Vibe 98.9 FM celebrated its fifth anniversary – in conjunction with Cable and Wireless bMobile – with a street packed with listeners last Friday.

All of the popular radio station’s DJs joined in for the festivities and were joined by Caribbean sensations GT Taylor and Selecta Renegade for V5 – the fifth anniversary of Vibe 98.9 FM.

“It’s always so fulfilling to see a venue filled with people who are there just to support your radio station and its DJs,” said Kenny Rankin of Vibe 98.9 FM.

“It’s rare in this business that a radio station can affect a community this way and I’m grateful for that.”

The night kicked off with well-known Friday night personality DJ Stephen King, well known for his selections of hype and rare hip hop cuts. He was followed on the Fort Street stage by young master DJ Von – who brought party dancehall and bumping reggae rhythms -  and a performance by Caymanian hip hop group C.B.R., who gave the crowd a sneak listen to tracks from their upcoming album. Selecta Renegade took the mic and the crowd rushed the stage. Between Renegade’s feel good reggae, powerhouse emceeing and brand new rhythms – the crowd was well primed for the party.

In Senor Frog’s – DJs Flex and Herman Vallecio held down the VIP Lounge with their trademark Latin vibes.

Throughout the night, lucky partiers were bestowed with prizes such as Nokia 6070 cell phones from Cable and Wireless and Cayman Airways plane tickets. No one was luckier –however - than Omar Korbie, who won the grand prize “Meet You There” Getaway – two round trip tickets to Montego Bay, Jamaica and an all-inclusive trip to Breezes Runaway Bay – a SuperClubs Resort. The trip was sponsored by Heineken, Cayman Airways and Breezes Runaway Bay.

GT Taylor was the final performer on the bill. Fort Street went up in a roar as GT and his selector stormed the stage.

Hands were in the air and ladies swooned as the veteran Irie FM personality serenaded the audience.

GT’s heartfelt and larger-than-life performance was the ideal cap off to a night filled with joy and celebration.

V5 was presented by Cable and Wireless bMobile, Cayman Airways, Heineken, Coconut Car Rentals and Eminent Audio.
