Filipino man dies after being washed into sea

Friday, January 5, 2007

A 40-year-old Filipino national has died after it is believed a large wave washed three men into the sea.

The three were fishing at Pedro Castle on New Year’s Day when heavy seas appear to have caught them unawares.

According to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), the 911 Emergency Communications Centre received a call from a member of the public at approximately 4:30 pm on Monday, 1 January 2007 reporting that a man was in trouble in the water.

The RCIPS said its officers, paramedics and Enforcer boats responded to the scene and found one man unconscious in the sea.

The man, identified as Jesus Moral Imperial, was taken to hospital but found to be dead upon arrival.
Investigations into the death are continuing, according to the police.

In July 2006, a family of four had to be rescued at Pedro Castle after two youngsters were swept into the sea by a freak wave.

Three months later, an inquest heard how a teenager drowned in 2003 after jumping into rough seas in the same area.
