‘Pennies from Heaven’ auction date set

Friday, February 16, 2007

Principal Jennifer Paul-O’Donnell and Teacher Peter O’Donnell examine all the items from last year’s auction.

The St Ignatius Catholic School and Church will once again hold their annual ‘Pennies from Heaven’ auction fundraiser to make possible new additions to the school’s facilities.

In previous years, the auction had been a very important fundraiser for the Catholic school, raising funds that assisted in facility improvements and purchases, such as their new Arts & Music Centre, a canteen for over 300 students and renovations to Loyola Hall.

This year, net proceeds are planned to benefit the School Improvement Plan for Technology.  Many projects are already underway and many others are being considered, such as a new ICT lab with 30 new computers, classroom electronic projectors, interactive white boards and updated software.

The coordinators for this year’s auction plan to build on the success from last year, and promise to once again focus on keeping the event fun, with the help of friendly banter between Master of Ceremonies Jeremy Rice and Auctioneer James Bebarfald.

The evening will start with a Silent Auction served with champagne and appetizers, followed by a catered three-course delicious dinner, culminating with a Live Auction. There will also be Bidding Frenzies and other events throughout the evening.

Coordinators expect to have over 500 prizes this year, many of which will be bargains.

Vampt Motors, a key sponsor of the event, and St. Ignatius plan to have a brand new 2007 Toyota Rav 4 valued at over CI$25,000 available for the auction. The vehicle can be viewed anytime at Vampt Motors on Walkers Road, or on-line at www.vamptmotors.com.

Gaston Maloney, Vampt motors owner, was pleased to support the auction. “After all, it’s for a good cause, and what better good cause can there be than to improve our children’s education,” said Mr Maloney.

Jacques Scott will return as a key sponsor to the school’s event. The company will supply beverages and offer a variety of items to be auctioned.

Parish priest Father Mike Molner has actively supported and attended every auction held by St. Ignatius. He is very passionate about this event and has already begun enlisting volunteers and procuring prizes through the St. Ignatius Parish. Father Mike encourages all to get involved.  “While raising needed funds is the primary motivation for the auction, over the years it has grown into a very traditional, and fun, community affair,” he said.

The Pennies from Heaven auction will be held at the St. Ignatius courtyard, on Saturday, 5 May 2007.
