One of the signature house desserts – the bread pudding tastes as good as it looks
Overview
Located in Queens Court on West Bay Road, the Thai Orchid offers both authentic Thai cuisine and sushi. The restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner and also offers a take out service.
The team at Thai Orchid have mastered the small touches which when combined make a big difference. From the ornate swans and roses, carved from vegetables - found with the appetizers - to the intricate flower patterns in the dessert source, everything oozes charm and precision.
Menu
The menu is extensive, both for the sushi and Thai dishes, offering a very wide range of choice with something to suit all tastes. The Thai Orchid also has an impressive vegetarian menu, again for both Thai dishes and sushi.
The menu also highlights those sushi dishes that contain cooked ingredients, perfect for those who are not keen on the idea of raw fish.
With so many dishes, of which all sampled were quite delicious, it is difficult to single any one out but the Thai style lobster and the red snapper deserve to be highlighted. The spring rolls and wontons are also fantastic, using a much lighter pastry that makes a world of difference. The Phad Thai is excellent and the Phad Prik Pa Gai is a surprise delight with its lemon grass, lime and basil sauce.
If you still have room for dessert then you will not be disappointed. There are many well-known, and well made, dessert dishes on the menu but the house specialties are a must.
Value
The Thai Orchid is very reasonably priced and with the food as good as it is you cannot help but think that your money has been well spent. As in most places, the seafood dishes are the most expensive but are still good value.
Service
The staff at the Thai Orchid are as friendly as they are efficient, forming a cohesive team that provide excellent service. The attention to detail that is applied to the preparation and presentation of the dishes is extended to the treatment of guests that make dining at the Thai Orchid a real pleasure.
Style
The décor in the Thai Orchid is quite unique, with the walls and ceilings designed and painted by owner, manager and artist Suladda. Hung on each of these individualistic walls is a canvas, again painted by Suladda, which showcases the artist’s versatility. Befitting of the restaurant’s name, there are several orchid paintings but also impressive landscapes and impressionist works. The low lighting gives the whole restaurant a cozy feel, both warm and romantic, making it perfect for a group gathering or an intimate meal for two.
Overall
With such wide choice from two extensive menus, the Thai Orchid caters to every taste. It is the perfect place to enjoy sushi, with each dish clearly described, along with varied and imaginative authentic Thai food. Simply put, the great food, great setting and great service make the Thai Orchid a great restaurant.
