With the assistance of the Rotary Club of Grand Cayman Central, more inmates at Her Majesty’s Prisons (HMP) can take the GED (General Education Diploma) examination, which enables them to obtain the equivalent of a high-school diploma.
“We are pleased to present this donation to the prisons’ literacy programme,” said President of Rotary Club Central Dr George Meggs. “It serves a good cause because by educating people, we help them to secure brighter futures for themselves.”
The exams will be administered on 15 and 16 June at Triple C School. “This donation has granted four inmates, who have completed the requirements, an opportunity to finish their high school education,” said HMP teacher Alton MacDonald.
Rotary Club Central continually supports the prisons’ literacy programme by supplying tutors and materials. Each year, several inmates – from Eagle House, Northward and Fairbanks – have the opportunity to take the GED exam.
