Letter: This is our country

Published on Tuesday, September 1, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir,

I am 15 years old and I wrote a letter to Cayman Net News on Sunday August 23, 2009 under the heading: “The problem has been going on too long now”. Caymanians; I have something to say to you all. This is our country and we need to start fighting for it. Over time now, many companies here in the Cayman Islands, as I mentioned before, tend to bring in more foreigners to work here replacing us. Now if we continue to let them do this to us; what will happen eventually?

I mean it is absolutely ridiculous to see it happen, and no one knows who it will happen to next.

People may say whatever they like about me, but one thing that I have learned in the short life that I have had is that we are to stand up for our rights and not let other people step over us, and me for one as a (big mouth Caymanian); I don’t care what people say because I wasn’t brought here to live life for them; I am here because of God.

Now; I know for a fact that many Caymanians today are being laid off, fired, or salaries cut, and it is upsetting, and of course a depressing mood to go through, but guess what; with all of that you can walk away with your dignity and live on with your life. Yes, I admit it’s not easy, but we are Caymanians and we need to start fighting for our country. But most of all come together as one, so that we can make a difference.

A lot of people tend to wait on governments to help or solve the problem, but without us they’re useless because it takes a country like the Cayman Islands to come together and make a huge difference. I hope to see Caymanians starting from now, standing up for themselves and coming together.

Alfred D. Dixon
