Letter: Cayman's reading public need to open their eyes

Published on Friday, September 11, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir,

Mr J. Smith (“Letter: I encourage everyone to speak up”), It is quite obvious by now that I am not the only contributor to Cayman Net News that has caught on to the fact that there is something else going on with Florence Goring Nozza than just concern for the welfare of the people of the Cayman Islands, and I appreciate your addressing the issue directly.

That she is someone’s’ political mouthpiece is glaringly obvious to any intelligent reader of Cayman Net News, and also that she is not the author of some of the material that is published under her name. Her writing style of unfocused, contradictory, and emotional tirades against all and sundry is well known and recognised by now, but some of her more recent letters, though not many, are too similar to some other writers’ style to have been written solely by her.

I have submitted letters to Cayman Net News questioning her plagiarising of mine and other writers’ letters for her own ends, and up to now those letters have not seen the light of day; hopefully this one will.

There is also the issue of why the editor of Cayman Net News allows her to use the newspaper as her personal bully pulpit that leaves questions unanswered as to the relationship between Ms Goring Nozza and Cayman Net News, and also Cayman Net News ‘ political neutrality; given the tone and content of some of her letters.

As one of the writers told by this self-appointed dictator to “keep quiet”, I reserve the right of response to remind Ms Nozza that bullying tactics and loudness of verbosity do not scare me in the least, and that Cayman’s reading public need to open their eyes to everything that is now being made public in the trial of Lyndon Martin and put things in perspective in relation to what they read in the printed news on a daily basis. It will be very interesting to see how far the public of the Cayman Islands will be willing to go to accommodate Ms Nozza, her failed political ambitions, and her continuing to harangue the public for her own and other peoples’ purposes. But I can assure her that this is one user of the media who usually ignores anything that she has to say as politically-motivated propaganda and who loses no sleep over her opinions of me or my published comments.

Ricardo Tatum

Editor’s note: Although this should not be necessary, we reiterate that we maintain strict political neutrality and, merely because we publish letters and/or commentaries expressing a particular point of view does not mean that we endorse or support that point of view. We welcome all expressions of opinion provided they conform to our editorial guidelines of decency and non-defamation.

So far as we are aware, we have never declined to publish any of Mr Tatum’s letters and, should any have gone astray or been overlooked we invite their resubmission.

J. Caldwell:
Ricardo; I can assure you, you are definitely not alone in disregarding everything Florence Goring Nozza has to say. In the beginning, we used to read them for a laugh, but now can't even be bothered with that. Sorry Flo; Mr Tatum's letter is spot on. Thanks for that!
