Letter: This man is not constant

Published on Thursday, October 15, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

Please give me the opportunity to make a few comments.

The world as it is today appears to be very gloomy and for Cayman being a part of it definitely we are included. Our drawback is the population numbers and the economic position category. When we look at the cost to live in these Islands it makes me ask myself how do the people survive and what kind of degrading conditions do they live in. I am sure if one does not earn more than CI$3,000 a month their condition isn’t very good. When we add rent, utilities, food, transportation, school children, the high cost of entertainment like cell phones, while the majority earn less than one thousand a month, adding to this is working less hours.

However, to hear some of our people in and out of government speaking about a referendum on a Lotto to be of value to the government they should have their heads examined, as it will only lead to more poverty. Folks can’t make it with what they earn today, so if they will cut back again to buy some lottery tickets what will happen? The children and family services will give more aid, so you will give to the government on the first hand and take back with the other hand, while only leading on to more other forms of gambling, which would lead on to more serious crime – Lord, have mercy on us.

Generally speaking, I am of the understanding that Mr Bush is now claiming to be a Christian, which means a follower of Christ. However, they say the devil also has followers too, maybe this is what he is making reference to. Like the revenue measures -- off and on again. Today is one thing; tomorrow it’s changed. This man is not constant.

And if you think victimisation is bad now, wait a while longer and you will see what Mr Solomon will do on the radio.
