Dear Sir,
I am responding to the letter “Living in Fear” published on Thursday, 22nd October 2009.
Yes, fear of others is a way of life now in the Cayman Islands. I remember in my younger days when we did not have security for our airstrips and, we were all eager to greet unknown visitors. My daughter is now 20 years old and I wish that I could have the peace of mind that my parents had when I was 20 years old; but it is not there. When I was 20 years old, my parents would receive a telephone call or a visit after I was outwardly spoken to by an elder regarding my behaviour. Social pressure to confirm to the norm was set in place. However, today there isn’t any normal standard.
People yell, “I want to be free and not conformed to religion”; but is man truly free? Every day man is waking up to manmade laws to follow. Not realising that as the face changes on the man, so do the laws change. We have laws passed down from England, the Cayman government, government departments, our employers, and the list continues.
So, is man truly free? Man is not free. Life just presents us with two options; submit to God or submit to man.
Years ago, Caymanians submitted to God and lived their life according to the laws of God, but these days are fading very fast and so now we have rampant crime. The original Caymanian has even faded, so the island now reflects what it truly is.
Greed is the contributing factor with both parties involved, because we wanted the money that came with the foreigners and the foreigners wanted to be here to make the money.
Then came envy on the part of Caymanians, because after all, this was their island and they should have the huge house and the fancy car. The destruction of the family core began.
The list of deadly sins began; so now we have a whole island of people that are not submitting to God’s laws, but are submitting to the laws of man. We have a whole island of gods walking around, because they want others to submit to them.
I pray that this will be printed, because I propose to everyone on the Cayman Islands; who will you submit to: “God” or “man”? If “God” was the answer by the majority, if not all, then the Cayman Islands will be reinstated to the safe heaven that I once knew.
