Letter: Brave, bold Brac women and men

Published on Thursday, October 29, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir:

Kudos to Yvonne Walton, Patrice Dilbert and to all who joined them on the walk to benefit research for breast cancer.

I have attended church services with Yvonne and Patrice and know of their faith commitment and this matter of their resolve and commitment to benefit women’s’ causes will be far reaching and is noteworthy.

Many dollars from the benefits of walks and other fund raisers continue to support the Susan B. Komen Foundation and other organisations that are committed to helping women needing mammograms and areas of ongoing research toward a cure for breast cancer. Many of us Brackers will pause this pink October and throughout the year to remember Patsy, Anita, “Miss Pam’s sister”, and I personally remember my own grandmother, Helena M. Foster-Lazzari, struck down by cancer. We remember in our hearts all of the brave and bold Brac ladies that have been victims of this dreaded disease.

This month also marks the 21st anniversary of my surgery and subsequent chemotherapy for breast cancer (intraductal carcinoma). One usually does not plaster their recovery and surgery dates all over a newspaper but in the name of research for the search of a cure, I am writing this. May we walk and stand tall hope and pray for a cure and to live to see cancer wiped out in our lifetime.

Keep walking, Brackers, and all you who persevere and commit yourselves to good and worthy causes. Brackers have always been the flickering torch of hope’s shining light.

So, ladies, please remember that the best protection is early detection. Join the millions far and wide who take pride in support of education to help women stay aware and support research for a cure that can save lives everywhere.
