Cayman Tourist, the latest addition to Cayman Net News’ array of publications, was designed to enrich our visitors’ experience of our Islands. Recently, the new magazine served as a teaching aid for History and Social Studies classes at John Gray High School.
“We, the History and Social Studies Teachers of John Gray, always try to inculcate in each and every student, to love their roots and take pride in what our islands have to offer to the world. And we are very grateful to know that there exists a local tourism magazine that does just that, promote pride and nationalism through excellent feature articles” said Seon Walker-Williams, History Teacher of Class/Year 12WSS1.
Cayman Net News was initially approached by Social Studies teacher Leonard Bodden to request copies of Cayman Tourist when he saw the pilot issue promoting the Islands as a premier wedding destination.
Mr Bodden said, “We recognise the need to educate our students about our tourism product, and we saw that Cayman Tourist can help us explore the subject of Marriage Tourism in our classes.”
For its part, Cayman Net News was more than happy to oblige. Publisher and Editor-In-Chief Desmond Seales said, “It is our mission to promote social and economic development, as well as better understanding and unity among the people of Cayman. We take pride in knowing that we are able to enhance student learning through our publication.”
Cayman Net News also recognises the importance of promoting tourism. Mr Seales continued, “Given these challenging economic times, we saw the need to contribute to the enrichment of every tourist’s experience of Cayman to encourage repeat visits and increase visitor numbers. We also provide an excellent avenue for the members of tourism industry to promote their products and services.”
Published quarterly, Cayman Tourist is a full-colour glossy magazine that showcases everything the Cayman Islands has to offer. With a circulation of 50,000, it is widely distributed across all three Islands, to ensure that every visitor can avail of a complimentary copy. The Winter 2009 issue will be available at the end of November.
