April Bending - Art Made in Cayman, Showcased in China

Published on Friday, September 18, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

When the Director of a Montreal art gallery saw April Bending’s paintings at her most recent show in NYC, he suggested that he represent Ms Bending at the Shanghai Art Fair held on Wednesday, 9 to Sunday 13, September in Shanghai, China.

Although he was already familiar with her work having seen images of them in American art magazines, the art connoisseur was even more impressed at their quality first hand, and this compelled him to have one of Cayman’s most prolific artists participate in the renowned show.

“Although I have been to art fairs in Italy, Germany and the United States, I have wanted to participate in the Shanghai Art Fair since its inception in 1997 because, being the most important art show in Asia, it has such a great reputation in the art world. I was very excited about being asked to take part in it,” said Ms Bending.

Arteria Galerie chose Ms Bending’s more subtle paintings from her “On the Road” series. These paintings show monochromatic images of people who are deep in thought in various situations which the gallery felt would have an appeal to the Chinese taste for more serious art. Paintings from her “Sails” series were also shown.

The Fair took place in the Shanghai MART with over 45,500 sq.ft. on four floors and has two main halls. Art pieces from 168 international galleries were on display.
