The first annual Lions Club of Grand Cayman Corporate Sports Fun Day was held on Saturday 17 October with thirteen teams competing for the coveted trophy.

The overall winners of the event were Rey’s Renegades representing LIME. Team captain Reynaldo Ysaguirrie, said “it was a fantastic day, we all had a lot of fun and I would recommend that other corporate teams come out and support next year.”

“It really was a great team- building exercise and every member of the team had to participate in the events. The egg and spoon relay race was my particular favourite,” he noted.

The Sports Day was staged to raise funds for Sight Screening that is currently taking place among Year 1 and 4 students in Cayman’s schools.

Lions are advocates for sight and each year this programme takes place to identify children who have sight problems.

Participants competed in a variety of sporting events, some with an exciting twist. In football, for example, one had to shoot at a target and get the ball through one of the holes; the same for tennis. Golf was conduted around a course where entrants had to bounce the ball off a wall to start and then carry on down a short course into a hole; lawn bowlers threw three balls at the “skittles” which were filled water bottles. These were just a few of the competitive events.

Lion President Debbie Ebanks said, “The turn out was great considering this was our first time hosting this event. Everyone had lots of fun and it culminated with the “tug-o-war” which had everyone screaming and shouting. We are always looking for ways to raise money and if people can have a good time too, that is even better.”

Other teams who participated were CIBC High Velocity; CIBC Conquerors, CIBC Giants, RBC Wealth Management A and B, Le Classique, Kensington Killers, Cayman Screen Print, The Swindlers, LIME Dare Devils and LIME Tony’s Tigers.
