Opening week of the WestTel Adult Roller Hockey League proved to be highly successful as puck play returned to the King’s Sports Centre.

“We’ve got a great season ahead of us,” says Raymond Singh, Athletic Director of King’s.

Tim McDonald, the league-leading scorer for the past two seasons, started week one off with a whopping four goals. Jeff Danter, Dave Stewart and Jamie Lyon, to cap off the highlights of the week, also added a few hat tricks.

Danter scored his three for his team Elite Marble and Granite in a loss to new team Budget Beavers. McDonald’s goals for the Beavers, along with Lyon’s and Mark Missal’s one, gave them the 8-4 win on Tuesday, 16 September’s early game.

Last year’s champions, the Alba High Rollers, won their opening game 7-6 against another newcomer to the league, Cayman Physio, for whom Stewart plays.

Rollers Wolfgang Brocklebank (2), Rob Seward (2), Jeff Hart (1), Tim Courtis (1) and Ryan MacMillan (1) were the contributors of the eight goals for the win. Team Physio’s game MVP Stewart had help from Pete Holowchuk, Brendon Malice, and Paul Peene who each scored once, keeping the game close till the end for game two on the night.

Next games will be played Tuesday, 30 September, with the 7:00pm game between Cayman Physio and Elite Marble and Granite, and the 8:00pm matchup of Budget Beavers versus Alba High Rollers.
