The Sports Association of the Sister Islands (SASI) began its 2008-09 fundraising campaign last weekend with a Car Wash and Bake Sale, held by the Cayman Brac Football & Netball Club’s U-18 team members, and donated their entire earnings to the Brac Branch of the Humane Society. September to June marks the athletic season for all sports in Cayman Brac, while the summer months are geared to summer camps, rest, recuperation, and vacation.
Last year SASI partnered with the Brac Branch of the Humane Society, to help them raise funds to carry-out their much needed services for animals on the island. But because of its busy schedule of programmes and travel, the association never got around to helping them raise funds or assist with much needed projects throughout the island.
“Although we’re always in need of more funding to do more sporting programmes, the Brac Branch of the Humane Society is in more desperate need of the funds. On behalf of the association and the athletes, we’re more than happy to assist the Brac Branch in any way we can,” SASI President Mitchum Sanford.
SASI hopes to carry out another four fundraising Car Wash & Food Sales this calendar year before both the football and netball teams begin their competitive national league season respectively. “To maintain the Sister Islands’ vigorous sporting programmes, travel expenses, equipment, and to assist the Brac Branch of the Humane Society, the association is encouraging its entire club teams, parents, and guardians, to get more involved this season especially with helping to fundraise these needed funds,” said Mitchum Sanford.
Special thanks is being given to District Administration for the use of their compound and the museum porch, donations, generous and pleasant customers, Bernard Watson, Cathy Scott, Ventisha Conolly, Jenice Tatum, Dorra Sanford, Dianne Tatum, netball and football athletes. |
