Shelter wardens Shauna Martin with son Tajun, and Derrylee Martin
Since Hurricane Paloma struck on 8 November, relief operations at the Aston Rutty Centre on Cayman Brac have been vital to residents.
Sisters Derrylee and Shauna Martin are part of a dedicated core of volunteers at the centre who are pushing personal needs aside to ensure the welfare of others.
Elderly residents and children remain in the shelter and their care entails supervising housekeeping and also meeting medical and specialist needs.
Even so, the Brac wardens also find time to assist the Adventist Development & Relief Agency (ADRA) and the Red Cross with distributing aid.
The siblings are happy to serve but they say they are also looking forward to restoring their own homes and families, and to resuming their respective employment with the Customs Department and Heritage House.
