The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) delivered key personal safety messages to 12 members of the Rotaract Blue during a recent meeting of the club.

Launched in May 2007, Rotaract Blue is one of the newest Rotaract initiatives in the Caribbean and caters to young people aged between 18 and 30. With its motto “Committed to making a positive difference” in mind, the club requested the presentation from the RCIPS and officers from George Town Neighbourhood Policing were more than happy to oblige.

Police Constables Dave Cumberbatch and Teekal Cowan spoke to the group on a range of topics including home safety, safe walking and jogging, vehicle safety, self-awareness and self-defence.

Assistant Secretary of Rotaract Blue Stephanie Scott said some key messages about being aware of your surroundings were delivered, which is extremely important.

“The information provided by the officers was very informative. I am sure we will be more aware of our surroundings and not take our safety for granted,” she said.

PC Cowan, who led the presentation, said: “This was a great opportunity to spread some key personal safety messages. The group was attentive and appreciative of our attendance. It was a pleasure to attend.”

The RCIPS says it is committed to addressing community concerns and the fear of crime, which often heavily outweighs the actual level of crime taking place. Anyone wanting to speak with an officer about personal safety or receive a talk of a similar nature should contact their local Neighbourhood Policing officers via their nearest police station.
