Mail Service to Sister Islands Resumes

Published on Thursday, November 27, 2008 Email To Friend    Print Version

The Cayman Islands Postal Service (CIPS) has announced that mail operations to the Sister Islands were scheduled to resume on Wednesday, 26 November.

As a result of damage to postal facilities caused by Hurricane Paloma, Stake Bay Post Office at the District Administration Offices will be the only fully operational postal facility on Cayman Brac, said a CIPS press release.

Opening hours of the Stake Bay Post Office will be from 9:00 am to noon from Monday to Friday.

Acting Postmaster General Anthony Williams announced in the press release that customers would still have 24-hour access to their mail.

Customers of the West End and Spot Bay post offices will have 24-hour access to their mail at their respective post offices.

Creek and Watering Place post office customers can access their mail at the West End Post Office. Customers of the Creek and Watering Place post offices should go to the Stake Bay Post Office to collect temporary keys for a West End Post Office box that will give them around-the-clock access to their mail.

General Delivery customers will be able to collect their mail at the Stake Bay Post Office only. All parcels, small packages and mail overflow will also have to be collected at the Stake Bay Post Office.

The Little Cayman Post Office is also open and is fully operational. Hours of operation are from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm from Monday to Friday.

Postal facilities would reopen once the buildings have passed inspection, the CIPS press release said.

The CIPS press release also reminded customers who cannot collect their General Delivery mail or packages themselves that they must write a letter to the Postmaster General authorising a particular person to collect mail on their behalf. The letter must also include a copy of the renter’s identification, with a signature.
