Some of the homes badly in need of repairs on the Brac.
As the recovery process continues on Cayman Brac, building materials now top the list of needed supplies.
With immediate humanitarian needs such as food and clothing addressed, attention has turned to repairing homes and restoring facilities.
In response to the ongoing restoration of electricity, Hazard Management Cayman Islands (HMCI) is asking Cayman Brac residents who now have electricity to return borrowed generators.
The generators should be brought back to the Recovery Command Centre on Cayman Brac, located within the Bodden & Bodden offices. An HMCI press release said that generators would not be collected, and Brac residents should call 925-6262 for more information.
Donations of water and home furniture, especially beds and mattresses, are being sought for Cayman Brac residents. These items may be delivered to a container being loaded between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm each weekday at the Family Life Centre, Church of God off Walkers Road.
Building supplies are also needed by Cayman Brac residents. Public donations to assist home reconstruction may be made at A.L Thompson’s Home Depot. Funds may be handed to any cashier, or to staff at the store’s enquiries counter. Donations will be used by Atlantic Star Company, in conjunction with the Recovery Command Centre on Cayman Brac, to purchase needed reconstruction items.
And while rebuilding continues, the Brac will be celebrating the Christmas season.
The Rotary Club of Cayman Brac’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Thursday, 11 December on the District Administration Building lawn at 6:00 pm.
The Annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Dinner, also hosted by the Rotary Club of Cayman Brac, will be held at the Cayman Brac High School hall at 6:00 pm on Saturday, 13 December.
However, all Christmas festivities are not moving ahead as planned. The Cayman National Choir’s Christmas Carol Concert on Cayman Brac has been postponed until further notice. |
