The Cayman Islands field hockey Team A beat Team B 8-1 in a match played on Boxing Day at Cayman International School pitch in Grand Cayman.

The match had put Team B at an advantage with a strike at the fifth minute of the game by Alton Davis. True to the saying that the final whistle determines the game – tables were turned. Harold Forty, of Team A, in the 10th and 14th minute of the encounter. James Ochuka scored four goals for Team A while Trudy Goodband and Chris Morisson scored one goal each to leave the scores at 8-1 during full time.

The match, which has been a tradition of the club for more than 20 years, brought in most of the 50 members registered in the field hockey club.

Nigel Bates, who coordinates the competition told Cayman Net News that due to excess heat from the sun on the day the players had to play for one hour as opposed to 35 minutes played per half of the field hockey game.

“We normally have every Boxing Day either at Camana Bay or at Cayman Prep School and this year we chose to play in Camana Bay,” he said.

Mr Bates also announced that plans were underway for the team to compete in a regional club tournament in Jamaica in the first week of April. He, however, said that the matter was subject to confirmation from the hosts.
