Rotary Sunrise will send four Rotaract essay competition winners to Washington DC for the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.

The service club recently staged an essay competition inviting Rotaract members to contribute leadership ideas. The four winners were 27-year-old marketing and PR officer Leigh Smellie, 24-year-old research analyst Danielle Japal, 28-year-old account manager Susan Levy and 27-year-old researcher Troy Brady.

The four are off to Washington DC from 1 July to 5 July representing their Rotaract clubs and the Cayman Islands.

While there, they will stay at George Washington University. They will sleep in the students’ dorms and experience an intense leadership-training programme that is designed to recognise, encourage, and further develop the leadership skills of 18 to 30 year olds who have shown a potential for rendering important service to their local communities.

Programme highlights include ‘Fellowship Around The World’, which highlights one embassy each from different areas of the globe; a Rotaract Service Project Expo; a national Fourth of July Celebration; tours around the U.S. capital, and leadership workshops.
