The ‘Talent Xposition of the Arts’ organised by the New Self-Help Community Foundation, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 28 June at the Harquail Theatre.
The event will mix visual fine art displays with the performing arts, including singing, dancing and comedy acts.
Some of the featured artistes will include Michelle T, Georgette Bodden, Jamesette Anglin, Jason DaCosta, Jessica Hurlston, Latoya Francis, and Soraya Taylor among others.
The lineup of young ‘stars’ will also include Carrie McCoy, Jeffrey Wilson, Dru Bodden, Rico Orrett, Beniel Miller, Lloyd Baker, Roberta Jefferson, and Jevaughnie Ebanks.
Dance groups will include Kri Performance, Latin Dancers, and the George Town Primary School Dancers among others.
Producer of the show, JC Connor, said, “We need to grow the talent we have and this time we want to have creative artists being entrepreneurs.”
Mr Connor said that young people should not only consider themselves as merely performers, but should also take their talent to a higher level and be proprietors of the same.
Mr Connor said the forum gives the youth a chance to put positive energy in the community and to be good examples.
He said that those who were successful “in using positive energy ended up being successful in life”.
The Masters of Ceremony for the event will include Lee Ramoon, Edlin Myles and Andrel Harris.
“We also want to enable the artistes to put professional videos together, so that young talented people don’t just ‘fade away,’ as has happened in the past, but are taken on a step further; we want to give them the opportunity to become recording or dance professionals,” Mr Connor said.
“Most of the time there is no way of showing the talent that the young people have here,” he said. “We are trying to create opportunities to showcase that talent, and to fill that gap.”
The proceeds from this event will benefit the Sunrise Adult Training Centre and the Foundation’s Youth Empowerment Programme.
Advance tickets are being sold at Funky Tangs and Reflections for $10. The price at the gate will be $15.
Inaugurated in 2001, the yearly event is slated to be even bigger and better this time around.
“This year we scouted some of the best performances from other talent shows on the island and put them together to make for a spectacular presentation,” Mr Connor said.
He also noted that arts instructor Patrick Broderick had worked hard to help performers succeed for the talent show.
The sponsors of the show include Island Companies, CUC, Eminent Audio, Foster’s Food Fair, Alba Electrical Contractors, AL Thompson, Auto Spa and Brown’s Esso. |
