Fifty students from St Ignatius Catholic High School visited five local businesses on Tuesday, 23 June for Chamber of Commerce Career Awareness Visits.
The programme, involving Chamber member businesses, aims to stimulate interest among the students about various career opportunities that are available locally and those they may not have considered previously, said a Chamber press release.
During the morning session, half of the students visited the Cayman Islands Health Services Authority. Students toured the 124-bed facility and the various departments which provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services.
At the same time, the remaining students were touring CITN, where they were greeted by News Director April Cummings and experienced the workings of a television station.
The Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort welcomed all 50 students in the early afternoon and offered a tour of the three-star, full service establishment which provides on-site spa services and full service restaurants and lounges. The students also enjoyed lunch, courtesy of the hotel.
A visit was then made to telecommunications provider LIME and there students learned of the company’s local operations and internal workings of the various departments.
The international accounting firm of KPMG provided a comprehensive presentation including educational requirements for employment, positions offered, career paths, and a ‘Generation Y’ video.
John Gray High School and Cayman Prep & High School are scheduled to take part in the Career Awareness Visits on Monday, 29 June and Tuesday, 30 June respectively.
They will be hosted by The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands, Island Companies, Grand Cayman Beach Suites, Butterfield, Maritime Authority, Cayman National Bank, Water Authority Cayman, The Ramada Grand Caymanian Resort, The Westin Casuarina Resort & Spa, dms Broadcasting and Walkers.
