Letter: This is piracy at its worst

Published on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 Email To Friend    Print Version

Dear Sir,

There is a lot of talk for and against the changing of Pirates Week to Heritage Week or something else. Not a bad idea.

I also heard the testimony and urge to change the name in another local newspaper by a former educator. Some of Cayman’s best students have been and still are victimized by Christian educators while claiming to be upholding truth, and moral.

However, there have been a number of good students with very high morals, and well bred young people coming from good families, that are doing quite well, despite bad mentorship, bias and prejudice. No thanks to some of these Christian professors, responsible for shattering the emotions and spirits of innocent students by their negative words spoken over their young innocent minds by so-called Christian school faculty, instead of praying with them. No wonder we’re turning out criminals and filling up the jails and, if the church and church schools were doing their job, we’d be turning out a whole lot more Christian students and leaders of our society. Words spoken over students that were entrusted with leadership during their academic years were piratised and perhaps looking at some of these teachers’ attitudes was an act or piracy against our little ones.

This is piracy at its worst. Young people do not forget the impact both positive and negative that their teachers and mentors have had on them during their academic years.

It is important to speak only positive words over our children every day of their life. When they’re not with you whether at school or elsewhere, you have no idea what negative or destructive words may be spoken over them even by those faculty of the so called Christian schools, at times risk the well being of our children with them unknowingly.
