The newly installed Lions Club of Tropical Gardens 2009-1010 board members sought spiritual blessings at a church service on Sunday, 28 June at the First Assembly of God Church on Old Crewe Road.
Club president Melrose Gooding invited the new board members to attend the service at her church to seek spiritual guidance for the year ahead.
Mrs Gooding said, “The Lions Club is a very huge organisation in the Cayman Islands and it is truly an honour to be a part of the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens. We are a people oriented community organisation with the intention of providing community services throughout the Cayman Islands.
“There have been many presidents before me that have made a big difference in our community and I intend to continue that tradition. Essentially, I am just trying to do my part within the community. My desire is to serve,” she said.
Mrs Gooding said familiar club programmes and events would continue.
“One of the major events that we will observe is the breast cancer awareness month upcoming in October. We will continue to provide community outreach, the issuing of free mammogram vouchers, fundraisers and educational materials, and we will continue to provide support and early detection information to women living in the Cayman Islands,” she said.
Mrs Gooding also announced new club initiatives.
She said, “We also support a diabetes and osteoporosis awareness programme, which is the next major project that we are undertaking. In the coming months we will also be partnering with health organisations and various companies to conduct a major health fair. We have a programme called ‘Reading in Schools’ where we teach in need children from various communities proper eating habits and encourage reading.”
Torrance Bobb, Senior Pastor at First Assembly of God, said, “The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens have made a significant difference in our community and we would like to urge all of you to take advantage of all the special things that they are offering and we would like to offer a prayer for them.”
He continued, “Let us also pray for those who have authority over us. We need God to bless our nation. When we pray, we invite God to come into our community and national affairs. We must pray earnestly. When we pray we must pray in faith and believe that God is hearing us.
“We serve a miracle working God. Pray for the people who will make the decisions that will affect us. Let us pray for our sons and daughters and country and relatives and friends. God is able to intervene and make a difference if we pray,” he said.
Quoting a passage of scripture, Pastor Bobb said, “Ask and ye shall receive, seek and ye shall find, knock and the door shall be opened.” |
