Sports Person of the Week - Brett Fraser

Published on Friday, July 3, 2009 Email To Friend    Print Version

Brett Fraser

Swimming sensation Brett Fraser is an enigma. His other brother, Shaune, was our Sports Person last week.

Just like Shaune, Brett was introduced to the water when he was six weeks old by his parents. As such with rigorous training at the Lions Pool thanks to Laura Ribbens of Fitness Connection as well as Coach Penny McDowall, Brett had only one option out of the pool, to become a successful swimmer.

At high school, in Jacksonville, Florida, Brett claimed19 straight Florida state championships.

According to his mother, Laurice Fraser, the young man has a special stroke in the backstroke, which sets him apart from competition. Brett has been performing exceptionally well despite not winning the just concluded Flowers Sea Swim.

In the 2007-08 season Brett was placed third in the 200 free style swimming with a time of (1:42.21). Previously he had touched fifth in the 100-meter free style (53.31) at the Alabama Invitational.

He had earlier recorded a 21st-place finish in the 100 back (53.15) at the Boilermaker Invitational and finished fifth in the 100 free style (46.58) at Kentucky.
