Cayman HospiceCare (CHC) was born when a group of friends, with the support of others in the community, sought to make a wish come true.
When Tim Shea, a young Irish lawyer with the local law firm of Hunter & Hunter, was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1996, he made a wish to leave the hospital and return home to spend his remaining time in Cayman with friends and family.
This wish became a reality when friends raised funds along with local community organisations.
After Tim’s death, the group gained momentum as others in the community became aware of their purpose, and Cayman HospiceCare was established.
CHC is located at the historic Conch Shell House, with a team of three full-time and one part-time nurse, two full-time cares, an administrator and fundraising coordinator. Through its sister organisation, Friends of Cayman HospiceCare, donors from the United States are able to make contributions while receiving their tax deductions.
Through the years, CHC has stayed true to its commitment of making end of life care free and available to all those living in the Cayman Islands.
