Jet skiers had another round of fun as they staged the Bull Run in East End that included quarter mile races and a five-lap race.
Matthew Henry, riding boat number 9, took the first position. The second position was taken by Daron McLean with boat number 52. Seth Watler, with boat number 101, took the third position.
The race marshal, Tony Coe said that competition was stiff in the tournament but only the top three were getting the accolades.
In the Five-Lap Race Corey Miller took the first position.
The Promoter of the race Shane Edwards expressed delight for a successful day when Daron McLean performed well in the race. This adds to his rising star noting that he recently won the Rookie of the year award for wave runners and also got good position during Jet Around Cayman. He was actually first in the race but he had a penalty and five minutes were added on him getting him into second position.
In the Bull run Daron McLean took the second position.
McLean will be traveling to Arizona for the World Jet Ski Championships although he has not qualified.
The MLA for Bodden Town, Arden McLean , who is also Daron’s father said that the Jet ski sport although expensive needed to be promoted by the government especially in his constituency because it suits very well in the Go East initiative.
In justifying why the wave runner races should be in the constituency Mr McLean noted that there was a reef protecting the waters next to the coastline making it an ideal area.
“It is a perfect opportunity if Shane (Edwards) stays at it and continues to develop it which I encourage him to do, it can also serve as an attraction for tourists as well because it presents an area like Phoenix Zoo Arizona where they have a big lake and do world championships there. We can have them here is East End because we have the enclosed area with the reef.”
“The Go East initiative is fine and I will encourage what I can do what I have to do and work with everybody since we have the best of conditions right here in East End.”
Wishing to have the wave run from a first hand experience Mr McLean rode on one recently during Father’s Day. His son took him from North Sound across to Kaibo for lunch while performing the daredevil stunts that were quite an adventure for his father. However upon reaching Mr McLean refused to return aboard the runner and had to settle for a hitch on the boat. He described the experience as scary.
However the MLA thinks it is an interesting sport for youngsters if their parents can afford it. “You know most parents say it is dangerous but you can also get a leg broken on the football field,” he said.
He said that what was important was for those providing guidance to supervise the young. Mr McLean commended his son’s efforts saying that Daron had made him proud.
“My son has developed beyond my wildest of imaginations since he has been on this, he has been exposed to so many professionals and so other people, his peers throughout the world, it is very good and I would encourage anyone to get their kids involved in that.” |
