On Saturday, 31 October the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens received $1500 from Darla Dilbert of Eclipze salon. The donation was garnered from funds raised from the Cut-a-thon event, which took place on Sunday, 18 October 2009.

“I was very happy with the outcome of the Cut-A-Thon this year” stated Darla Dilbert, owner and artistic director of Eclipze Hair Design & Day Spa.

“It was great to see lots of new faces that came out in support of this worthy cause,” Ms Dilbert said.

“ It is such an honour for me to be able to give back to the community in a way that allows professionals in my field to network together.”

“I look forward to next year as it will be our 10th year and we are going to make it a big one.”

The event began when sisters Darla and Darna Parchman decided to raise funds to support a cause that would make a difference in the community.

Breast cancer hit close to home when they lost a dear aunt to the disease and so they decided that the funds raised would go to the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens and its Breast Cancer Awareness and Early Detection campaign. Other salons and spas were invited to participate and so began the Cut-A-Thon.

Over seventy persons attended the event this year, and the salons which participated were Eclipze, The Lion’s Den, Artista, La Mer, Renaissance, Focus, Spa Esprit, Virginia’s, Body works and Sameen’s. Services offered were: wet cuts, mini manicures, eyebrow threading and a $1 a minute massages to the public at reduced rates.

Ms Dilbert expressed thanks to Foster’s IGA, Black-Beard’s/Cayman Distributors, and Jacques Scott for drinks and Digital Design and Cutting Edge Marketing for donating banner and flyers.

She also thanked the Honorable Rolston Anglin, Minister of Education and his family who sponsored the radio promotions on the day of the event. This she said was done in memory of Mr Anglin’s grandmother Gwendolyn “Delly” Anglin, a breast cancer victim.

Lion Ann Hunte thanked Ms Dilbert on behalf of the club and said that the funds would be used to provide free mammograms vouchers and assist cancer patients and their family with medical and other related expenses.
