The Cayman Islands national Girls Under 17 squad arrived safely in Port -au- Prince, Haiti last Saturday evening, where they will spend one week participating in the CFU World Cup qualifying games against three other countries.

This tournament will field Group A which consists of the Cayman Islands, Bahamas, British Virgin Islands and Haiti.

The Cayman girls were accompanied by Head of Delegation Martha Godet; Head Coach Bobby McLaren; Technical Director Thiago Cunha; Team Manager, Gloria Gall; Equipment Manager Annette Monteith and Physiotherapist, Al Bartice.

The team faced the Bahamas team in their first encounter on Monday 2 November at 4:00 pm at the Haiti National Stadium.

The team settled in the Le Plaza hotel their home away from home and are adapting comfortably.

The hospitality extended to the group by the Haiti Football Association is fantastic and the security given to the group is awesome with police escorts guiding the team bus to and from their points of destination.

The girls had their first training session on Sunday at the national stadium before hundreds of spectators and based on their attitude it was obvious that they were in high spirits and are ready for the tournament.

After the training, the officials were taken to one of the best restaurants in the capital where they were fed and entertained by the Football Association at a welcome party.

Coach Bobby McLaren said he was confident that the girls have settled in and will do well in this tournament.

“The girls are physically fit and mentally prepared for this tournament; we face Bahamas first and will be doing our best to get past this encounter and take on our next opponents, the British Virgin Islands on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.”

“Presently the team spirit is excellent in the camp. The coaching staff have done their part; all that is left is for the girls to do is to go on the field of play and with the help of the Almighty God play to win and make the Cayman Islands proud throughout the tournament,” Mr McLaren stated.

The Cayman Islands will face the hosts, Haiti in their final game to be played on Friday 6 November at 6:15 pm. All games will be played at the same venue and the winner of the group and the best second-placed team will advance to the next phase of the competition.
