The West Bay Police are continuing efforts to strengthen their bond with members of the community. Following a successful fundraising raffle, officers from that district recently presented sun blocking hats to students at John A. Cumber Primary to be worn during physical education classes.
Members from the West Bay Police Station, the organisers of the event, were on hand along with sponsors and contributors, Minister of Education, Hon Rolston Anglin, CL Flowers & Sons CEO Dara Flowers-Burke and LIME Representative, Daniel Tatum.
Chief Inspector Angelique Howell said that the initiative was two-fold; to provide assistance to the school and parents by purchasing the hats for the little ones to protect them from the sun, and the bigger focus being to form a bond with the younger generation in the district of West Bay in an effort to instill trust and confidence in the police.
“I strongly believe that children soak up everything that life has to offer and hopefully they will embrace the fact that the police are here to help and protect them,” the West Bay Area Commander stated.
The school’s principal, Joseph Wallace, expressed his gratitude to the police and all those who had contributed.
“I would like to thank the community members that sold tickets for us and those that purchased them; it is very pleasing to work in partnership with other agencies and companies for the betterment of our young people.”
An Acer laptop was donated to the raffle by the Minister of Education and a Blackberry cell phone by LIME.
“This enabled us to raise CI$1140.00 to purchase the hats and I would like to thank the sponsors for their contributions; this shows that we can accomplish a lot when we work together as a team,” Ms Howell added.
The raffle drawing took place on 7 October on Daybreak where two lucky persons received their prizes. |
