Cayman Brackers once again showed their talents at the Aston Rutty Centre on Saturday, 14 November, as The Lion’s Club of Cayman Brac held their annual variety concert.

A wide selection of music, dance, fashion, comedy and drama were presented to the audience in aid of the Lions Annual Christmas Cheer Program.

The show started with Steel Pan Music by the students of Cayman Brac High School, followed by the opening remarks by Cayman Brac Lions Club President and master of ceremonies for the evening, Ventisha Conolly. Her welcoming speech was followed by the Hannah Montana Dance, presented by the Brac Sugar Crew with the help of their choreographer Lion Sophia Johnston, after which Kevin Roberts performed his version of the song “I’m yours” by Jason Mraz. Lion Leona Cunningham filled the room with laughter when she held her monologue about being “a tough gyal”.

The audience was figuratively taken away by Quincy Brown, who first performed the well-known song “Drinking from my saucer” and then “People need the Lord” by Steve Green. He reappeared later in the evening to show his drama skills in a well-thought out monologue aptly titled “We Brackers 2”.

Rumor has it that the next Miss Teen Cayman Brac was amongst the models at this year’s fashion show. The stage was turned into a runway as they showed the latest in casual wear and later graced in elegant formal wear, which they presented very stylishly and professional to a cheering crowd (and even some paparazzi).

Multi-talented Ventisha Conolly not only hosted the show, she also contributed to it with a lovely song, in which she sang of life after lost love. Astrid Scott played a Piano Piece titled “Maple Leaf Ragtime” and the Olde Bajan Violin Section “How Many More” was performed by Mary-Ann Butcher.

While “Blessed” had heads bobbing to a medley of Reggae songs, the energetic Brac Sugar Crew wooed the crowd with two more exciting dance shows: a Hip-hop piece “Bounce”, done by the seniors of the Crew and “I’m Alive”, the Lion President’s theme song, which concluded the fun filled evening.

According to the audience, the show met the high expectations as it offered entertainment for every age and for every taste. It will be an evening to remember.

“With all Lions on hand, the show was a great success and the response from the viewing audience was phenomenal. We’ve already been asked when the next show will be,” Cayman Brac’s Lions Club President and show host Ventisha Conolly said. “We would like to thank each sponsor for the night - the Cayman Islands Water Authority, Billy’s Supermarket, L&M Superstore, Economy Electronics, Classique Boutique and Bluff View Store, for their generous donations. Special thanks also go to Big Daddy’s for their $ 50.00 donation to our Christmas Cheer Program,” she added.

Approximately $1400 was raised from the variety show, which will all be used toward the Lions Annual Christmas Cheer Program.
