Bodden Town handed Sunset their second defeat in two consecutive games in the Cayman Islands Football Association (CIFA) Premier League last Sunday at the TE McField Sports Centre in George Town, by blanking them 3-0.
It was Theron Wood who drew first blood in the 7th minute after eluding the weak Sunset defense line and firing a shot past goal-keeper Kevin Poole.
In the 26th minute, Charlo McLean netted his first goal, as he scored to end the first half 2-0 in favour of Bodden Town.
At the start of the second half, Sunset came out in a defensive mood going forward dangerously into Bodden Town’s half but their passes were quickly broken up by the burly Fabian Lewis captain of the team.
It was a ding-dong battle as Sunset tried desperately to score a consolation goal; this was not possible as in the 88th minute, McLean completed his double and ended the game 3-0.
In the other game played at this same venue between Scholars International and defending champions Elite the score was 4-3 at the end of regulation time.
It was Scholars International who went ahead in the 42nd minute with a goal from national representative O’Neil Taylor. In the 47th minute Scholars International took the score line to 2-0. This time the goal was scored by Chris Douglas, reflecting a 2-0 first half score line.
The second half was where the action was as Elite tried desperately to pull back one. In the 52nd minute Jedd Ebanks made history for himself, scoring his first goal ever in a senior competition.
Nahun Rodriquez, from the penalty box, wasted no time in the 65th minute to place a ball past Joseph James, taking the score to 3-1.
Technical Director Gregory Ebanks made two substitutions, putting on Donovan Godet and Dave McLaughlin. This changed the pace of the game as the fresh feet and the hard work of Rene Carter and Jason Ebanks paid off in the 73rd minute when Donovan Godet netted.
This was what the Elite boys wanted to push forward and push they did. Their efforts resulted in a third goal scored in the 93rd minute by Rene Carter to level the score at 3-3.
Their celebrations were not over yet, when Jermaine Haughton of Scholars International kicked a ball straight from the half line into the back of the net, ending the game 4-3.
Down by Ed Bush Roma lost 4-0 to Tigers. The goal scorers were Carlos Powery in the 37th and 57th minute, Kirk Rowe in the 88th and Kiegel Atkinson in the 93rd.
George Town had the better of Future as well, beating them 2-0. David Harding netted in the 26th minute and Lenox Bryan in the 57th.
Games continue this weekend with the live televised game at the TE McField Sports Centre between high-flying Scholars International and newcomers Bodden Town at 7:00pm. In the early game at 5:00pm Tigers faces Sunset.
At the G Haig Bodden Sports Complex, Roma will do battle with Future at 5:00pm and George Town meets Elite at this same venue at 7:00pm.
Scholars International is still on top with twenty three points, George Town are next with eighteen, Tigers on fourteen, Elite and Bodden Town on eleven each, Sunset and Future are on eight a-piece, while Roma remains on seven points. |
