Email To Friend Print Version | Letter: Murdered Blue Iguanas is not an isolated incident There is a blatant disrespect for the lives of animals in the Cayman Islands. Cayman is wonderful in most ways, but you have a long ways to go in your treatment of animals. - Debbie Martin
Recruitment consultancy firms face stiff challenges Number one, there’s no such thing as “permanent” employment in Cayman... unless the expat marries a Caymanian. Number two, Immigration is your biggest deterrent to expats working there. I had a wonderful job with a law firm in George Town and was repeatedly thrown stumbling blocks from Immigration. I finally gave up and went home. - Debbie Martin
DOT apologises to gay visitor The fact that an off-duty police officer coerced someone into a police car for breaking a non-existent law. That scares me. As a US citizen who has enjoyed a Caribbean island vacation in the past, I will make sure my friends know that Cayman Islands isn’t a safe place for gay/lesbian tourists. I’ve also heard stories of protesters greeting gay/lesbian cruises, which makes me concerned that I can’t just be in public with my boyfriend. I hope years of positive action on the part of the citizens of the Cayman Islands will help change my mind about how safe I feel coming for a visit. - Kevin Myers
Six Blue Iguanas brutally killed This attack is horrific but not totally surprising. When we moved into our home on Yacht Drive two years ago there were many iguanas living in our bushes by the channel to the North Sound. When disturbed they would jump in the water and swim towards the mangroves on the other side of the channel. Sadly there are few iguanas swimming across now. Mostly due to the hazard caused to them by Sting Ray City and other boats ignoring the well posted NO WAKE, 5 MPH signs in their haste to get customers out and back. - Norman Linton
Pirates landed on the Sister Islands I was looking to find my friend, Jinky Connor, on the internet and came across this wonderful website. My family are native Caymanians from the Brac and it was thrilling to see such strides the little place has made since I was last there ten years ago. I was so happy to be able to read about all the local activities and people I once knew and so dearly miss. Keep up the good work! - Danna Tibbetts
Dominica’s prime minister visits Cayman We are grateful for the hospitality that the Cayman government and people showed our dear prime minister. We look forward to returning that hospitality whenever you all choose to visit our warm island. - Naomi Thomas
Doctors contest fee splitting with HSA A culture can be defined in regard to how they care for their sick, impoverished and powerless. If you want stronger healthcare for your nation you must encourage the care givers, not penalise them. - Alan Aronowitz
Commentaries What a fabulous juxtaposition of commentary, April 11, 2008! I hope that each and every stakeholder in this issue reads and considers both commentaries. Consider the words and opinions of Mr Barlow and of Rev. Sykes. In a debate over human rights issues and tolerance, consider whose expression exemplifies tolerance, and whose does not! - Jon and Karen Wallace
Delegation tours Florida farms and Ag Expo This is good but who is this Miguel Smith and where is he from in West Bay? - Petal Silmore
Air Jamaica Air Jamaica is by far the worst airline I have ever flown on. I see Jamaica sees it as a symbol of National Pride. If that’s the case I am starting to wonder about the quality of the Jamaican people. - Frank Clevenger
Point of Sand, Little Cayman Your photo of the Point of Sand beach on Little Cayman is simply breathtaking in its simplicity. I could almost “hear” the silence. Truly a picture of peace and serenity. That slice of paradise should be preserved as a national park site. It reminds me of Grand Cayman’s Seven Mile Beach... 50 years ago! - Richard Parson, Beaumont, Texas, via West Bay |

Meinrad Calleja: I do hope an environmental authority will be set up to protect wildlife like the iguanas and ensure effective enforcement. This is an ethical issue. |
