The second annual Cayman Islands Cricket Association (CICA) Interschool under-15 competition got under way last week with defending champions Heritage High squaring off with New Horizons at the George Hicks Campus Grounds.
New Horizons batted first and through the outstanding efforts of Timothy Green who scored 53 runs inclusive of seven fours and three sixes and Matthew Suberan 28 runs with five fours, reached the challenging score of 160 for 6 off their 20 overs. P Dandie was Heritage’s best bowler taking two wickets for 26 runs from his allotted four overs.
In their turn at the crease, Heritage High never got any momentum going and was eventually bundled out for 55 runs in fifteen overs. Christopher Calloo was the main wrecker of the innings, taking four (4) wickets for ten runs with the able assistance of Timothy Green (2 for 8) and D Fierre (2/6).
New Horizons won by the wide margin of 105 runs and are yet to descend from the cloud of success given that they comprehensively thumped the defending champions.
MAN-OF-MATCH: Timothy Green.
Alex Fraser enjoyed the honourable distinction of becoming the first Under 15 player to score a century in the CICA u-15 competition. Playing against Leading Edge High School, Fraser thumped the bowling to all parts of the field, hitting fourteen fours and five sixes in a swashbuckling innings of 100 not out. On 94 not out with only one ball of their allotted 20 overs remaining, Fraser duly deposited the ball over the boundary for six to reach his historic landmark.
Batting first, Cayman Prep amassed the imposing total of 179 for four from their allotted twenty overs. Alex Fraser led the prep batting effort from the front. Entering the fray after Joeniel Bent took the two wickets to leave Prep in a precarious position of 25 for two wickets. When it was all over, Prep had reached their imposing total and Fraser was celebrating his hundred with teammates. Joeniel Bent (4 for 26) was the only successful Leading Edge bowler, taking all four Prep wickets that fell.
Leading Edge, in their turn at the crease, never seriously challenged Prep’s imposing score. G Ebanks with five fours in a quick fire 28, A Anderson 17 not out and G Davis 18 not out showed some fight but alas their efforts were not good enough as Leading Edge managed only 102 for 7 in their 20 overs. John Tweedie was the chief wicket taker with three wickets for 14 runs. Cayman Prep won by 77 runs.
