High scoring WestTel Roller Hockey

Published on Friday, May 9, 2008 Email To Friend    Print Version

High scoring would have to be the first words to describe the recent WestTel Roller Hockey night, with a game between Elite Marble and Granite and The Boomers, followed by Alba High Rollers and the Chiefs.

There were collectively 20 goals scored in the first game of the night. The Boomers won 12-8 over a very good Elite Marble and Granite.

Sizzling play by Shawn Bacon with four goals; Brad Berger, 2; Rusty Smith, 3; and one each by Dave Stewart, Ian Bridges, and Brendan Malice; helped the team win and hold the number one spot in the rankings.

Mr Bacon’s goals give him six for the season, and a few pegs up in the league ranks. But teammate Brad Berger’s two goals inched him closer to the number one spot in the league.

Team Elite Marble and Granite had great play by Reilly Novak and Josh Grant whose five and three goals, respectively, kept them in the game. Reilly Novak now has 14 for the season and ranks eighth in scoring. Josh Grant’s three doubles his prior total.

Elite Marble and Granite now have only one win over the Alba High Rollers after their loss and Alba’s win in the second game for the night, and The Boomers expanded their lead by two wins over the second place Chiefs.

The Chiefs lost by two in the second game of the night against Alba High Rollers.

The High Rollers’ 8-6 win boosted their league standings and confidence. Three players assisted with that win, scoring all the goals: Wolfgang Brocklebank, 3; Kirk MacMillan, 3; Darryl Hather, 2.

Mr Brocklebank’s three keeps him in the top three, but Mark Missal of the Chiefs had three in the same game to cut the lead and hold down the fourth spot.

Three of Mr Missal’s teammates - Rob Leadbetter, Tim McDonald and Jamie Lyon - scored a goal each to keep the game close.
