Brac cricketers dominate on home soil

Brac cricket team remains unbeaten on home soil.

Another exciting day of cricket saw Cayman Brac cricket team defeating Welly’s Cricket Club from Grand Cayman on Saturday, 3 May on the grounds of Cayman Brac High School.

After arriving late Friday night the visiting team had little time to settle in for their big game the following morning, and being branded as the best team in the competition, expectations were mounting as whether or not the Brac team could maintain their unbeaten streak at home.

The Welly’s team was sent in to bat and with a large contingent accompanying the team from Grand Cayman, crowd support was not lacking as they set out to establish a good lead that would be insurmountable for the Brac team.

With their ‘not-so-good’ display in the field last week, the Brac team had to ensure that their play was exceptional if they were to restrict the visitors to a total that would not pose a problem.

Top scorer for Welly’s team was Antonio Chase playing 43 runs not out and Harcourt Wayson chipping in with 36 after some blistering shots which saw a windshield being shattered and spectators running for cover and moving their vehicles. Their bid to pose a big score was hampered with some impeccable bowling from the Brac team as Robert Levy was the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets for 27 runs after 8 overs.

Adrian Muir took 3 wickets for 51 runs from his spell of 8 overs and skipper Desrick Dawson in his spell took 2 wickets for 28 runs. The visitors could only manage to muster 186 runs and the Brac team seemed set to continue their good home run. Leading from in front was Captain Desrick Dawson who opened the batting with the in form James Reid, but it was not a good day for James as he was dismissed for only 1 run.

The captain, taking matters in his own hands, set out to chase the target. The skipper played a sensational innings of 82 runs but was not pleased at the decision given by the umpire of caught behind where he felt he was nowhere near the ball. The dependable orthodox player, Sahadeo Sohan played an unbeaten 55 runs to steer his team to victory and the Brac team won by 7 wickets.

The team will be having a fundraiser this month with the date to be announced, to raise funds to offset the expense of the club. They thanked the community for their support, which they said was well appreciated and looks forward for their continued support.
