Brac FC upsets Bodden Town

Published on Friday, May 9, 2008 Email To Friend    Print Version

Cheers, horns, screams, shouts and massive celebrations could be heard and seen all over Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac last weekend when Cayman Brac Football Club’s U-16 team defeated for the first time ever the mighty Bodden Town FC 2-1 in their CIFA quarterfinal FA Cup match at the GHHS field. “What a historic occasion for football in the Sister Islands,” Coach Mitchum Sanford said. “Today we’re going to celebrate and maybe even all next week,” he added.

When the draw for the Youth FA Cup took place two weeks ago, Bodden Town FC suffered the biggest blow in drawing the toughest opponents in both the U-14 & U-16 division respectively. For Cayman Brac the occasion and timing were all right to face off against their long time rivals and eliminate perhaps their toughest opponent and challenger to the FA Cup.

Having already finished 2nd place in the U-16 league, Cayman Brac truly must have their sights and goal set on winning their FA Cup and their first piece of silverware. The Brac’s youngest and newest team, that being the U-14, also won their quarterfinal match against Tigers FC 3-2 in overtime to clinch a semifinal place this coming Saturday morning in Grand Cayman.

“Tigers FC came to play football last Saturday morning and brought the match to us. We started off on the wrong foot but as the game wore on we slowly started to put things together,” Coach Sanford said.

Young and rising star striker Brian Martin was definitely wearing his shooting boots last week, when he scored his second hat trick of the season for the Brac’s U-14 team, leading them to victory. The much fantasizing and talked about skill of Brian Scott was also evident again in the Brac’s defeat against Bodden Town when he scored all two goals for Cayman Brac’s U-16 team.

Captain of the U-16’s Chase Miller was thought to also be on the score sheet when he converted a cross from Kodie Scott, but was deemed offside. Multi-skilled Nicholas Scott did not find the back of the net last week for the Brac’s U-14s but was surely the hero in the U-16’s game as their goalkeeper. “Man of the match for me is Nicholas as he continues to grow in ability and stature each year and plays many valuable roles for the Cayman Brac Football Club in both divisions,” said Coach Sanford.
