George Micka and Leandra Jones to wed in Cayman.

Leandra Jones, daughter of Elizabeth Howell-Jones who writes a regular Interior Design article for this newspaper, and George Micka are retuning to Grand Cayman to get married.

Leandra and George, both Canadians met on the Island due to Hurricane Ivan. Leandra had been living here for 9 months when the hurricane hit and devastated the Island, 11 September 2004.

George was living in Alberta, Canada when his family called to tell him about the hurricane; his extended family is Caymanian and was also affected by the storm. On the advice of his family, George became one of the many skilled carpentry workers to help re-build after the hurricane.

Their lives crossed paths many times, but never had the opportunity to meet. Finally the following year, they met through mutual friends, became inseparable, and moved back to Canada together.

George proposed to Leandra in Toronto, Canada on the second anniversary of the hurricane in 2006.

“If it weren’t for that horribly destructive hurricane, they would have never met and fallen in love,” a press release from a spokesperson of the couple said.

Leandra and George thought it most appropriate to return to Grand Cayman for their wedding. They will be wed on Friday, 16 May 2008 in a lovely beach ceremony, and will be at Royal Palms that evening from about 10:30.
