Hon McKeeva Bush
Leader of the Opposition

Leader of Government Business Hon Kurt Tibbetts and Opposition Leader Hon McKeeva Bush will participate in the Chamber of Commerce’s special constitutional forum at the Marriott Beach Resort on Thursday, 22 May.

According to the Chamber, both the leaders of the ruling People’s Progressive Movement (PPM) and the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP) have agreed to join the discussion on the Cayman Islands Constitution.

The Chamber said the public is invited to the event, which is scheduled to start at 12:00 pm and end at 2:00 pm.

Each political leader will be given an opportunity to respond to a series of questions that have been developed using past Chamber surveys dealing with governance and constitutional issues, the Chamber said.

Representatives from the Chamber Council and the Non-governmental Organisations (NGO) Constitutional Working Group will serve on the panel.

Wil Pineau, the Chamber’s CEO, will moderate the discussion.

The constitutional forum will provide further information about constitutional issues that will inform the community about the various options for modernizing the relationship between the Cayman Islands and its administering power, the United Kingdom.

It is the first time that both political leaders have agreed to discuss the constitution on the same platform. The format for the forum is similar to the Chamber’s Candidates’ Forums that are held prior to each election. The public will be given an opportunity to submit questions at the conclusion of the panel questioning.

Persons interested in the constitutional forum can contact Catherine Healy at the Chamber on 949-8090 (extension 129).
