Canadiens score their lone goal

Fans were treated to some good roller hockey games this past weekend, with the 4- to 6- year-old players entertaining with close, well-fought matches.

“There were close games and excellent hockey that parents and fans continue to see out of the little players,” said Raymond Singh, Athletic Director at King’s Sports Centre.

The first game Saturday (10 May) was a close contest, with the Five-Continents Leafs wining 5-4 over the Appleby Sharks.

Chris Messer helped his team to a .500 record with three goals and one assist to Alexander Wilkins, who had the other two goals. Mr Messer also narrowed the gap to two goals behind Ben Black, who leads the league in scoring.

The Sharks stayed in fourth place with the loss, but didn’t go down to the Leafs without a fight from the three players who kept them in the game.

Jack Lewis had two goals and one assist, Cameron Galloway a goal an assist, and Abby Stewart one goal for the Sharks, keeping the young player among the top five scorers.

In game two, first place Citco Canadiens battled with second place KPMG Senators. Though the Senators handed the Canadiens their first loss, prevailing at 3-1, they sit in the number two spot by a four-point differential.

Estafania McDermot, Ben Ashman and Daniel Harrington each scored a goal for the Senators. The Canadiens’ Ben Black score an unassisted goal in the loss.

“We also had our 2nd 6U game on Saturday. It’s really a treat seeing the 4- to 6-year-olds playing this game. It’s an hour-long comic hockey reel and I’m really glad that the coaches, and parents are getting involved in the enthusiasm,” said Mr Singh on the third game.

Maples and Calder Lightning beat the Walkers Blue Iguanas 4-1.

The Lightning displayed real team play with the goals scored by four different players - Garett Kidd, Noah Booker (and one assist), David Pitcairn and Jabari Walrond.

Douglas Rowland scored the only goal for the Blue Iguanas.
