Caymanians shine at NCAA track meets

Cayman’s track and field collegians turned in another fine showing this past weekend.

At Clemson University, Tyrell Cuffy placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, clocking a time of 10.43 seconds, as winner Travis Padgett of the host school sped to a 9.96 victory, the fastest collegiate time in the United States this season and second fastest time in the world this year.

Mr Cuffy improved his season’s 200-meter time to 21 seconds flat in a runner-up finish, while King College teammate Kemar Hyman took sixth spot in 21.61.

Maxwell Hyman posted a time of 52.04 in the 400-meter dash.

Over at North Texas State University, Cayman’s representatives enjoyed superlative outings in the Sun Belt Conference Outdoors Championships.

Florida International’s Ronald Forbes won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.13 seconds into a negative wind, after posting a 13.90 in the preliminaries. He also clocked 21.77 for the 200-meter dash.

Carl and Carlos Morgan played a major part as Middle Tennessee State attained second place in the men’s division.

Carl placed second in the long jump with 7.82 meters (25’8”), and Carlos third with a 7.61 meter leap (24’11 3/4”), as both upped their regional qualifying marks in that event. Carl won the triple jump with a regional qualifying mark of 15.75 meters (51’8 1/4”), with Carlos sixth at 14.68 (48’2”).

In the javelin throw, it was Carlos with a regional qualifying toss of 63.51 meters (208’4”), and Carl sixth with his 56.87 (186’7”).

In the 4 x 100 meter relay, Carlos ran the second leg and Carl the third as the Blue Raider quartet finished in second place at 40.53 seconds, yet another regional qualifying mark.
