Union, Kit Nascimento; and Coach of the West Indies Rugby Union, Joe Whipple.

Butterfield Bank (Cayman) this week announced the renewal of sponsorship to the West Indies Rugby Union for its participation in international tournaments, including the 2009 International Board Sevens World Series.

Butterfield Bank’s Monique Bush said:

“We are proud to offer continued support to our West Indies team. We hope that with Butterfield’s funding they will have the opportunity to participate in more tournaments, gaining valuable experience and exposure. As they grow in popularity, we hope that their successes will encourage youth throughout the Caribbean to get more involved in the sport.”

The Guyana Telephone & Telegraph Company Ltd (GT&T) is also sponsoring the local rugby team.

President of the West Indies Rugby Union Kit Nascimento expressed his gratitude to Butterfield Bank and GT&T for their continued interest and support for the development of the sport in the West Indies.

“Although Rugby West Indies was still in its development stage, the team had demonstrated its potential to compete on the world stage and with generous corporate support we can take the West Indies game to the highest level of Sevens rugby,” he said.
