Jamaica's comedy king returns

Oliver Samuels
Jamaica’s Comedy King, is set to perform at the Lions Centre on Sunday, 8 June

The rib-tickling, laugh-out-loud funny Oliver Samuels returns to Grand Cayman next month for the staging of his musical comedy, River Bottom at the Lions Centre.

Oliver Samuels, who is critically acclaimed as Jamaica’s king of comedy, is no stranger to Cayman’s audience, having entertained here on several occasions.

River Bottom will be held on Sunday, 8 June and is being staged by the Jewel of Cayman Lodge, as a fundraising event for the organisation’s charities, including its annual children’s Christmas treat.

River Bottom has already played to sold out houses in Jamaica. The play is set in the district of River Bottom – a poor, isolated fishing and farming coastal community located rural Jamaica.

The cast is led by Oliver Samuels, who plays “Cappo” – River Bottom’s spiritual leader, faith-healer, prophet, political representative, storm whisperer…and whatever else works.

As the only one in the community with financial and other resources, “Cappo” reigns supreme. But with all the money in the world, he is still unable to get the one thing he has his sights on for years – a fascinating young woman, Pearle. Intrigue and laughter are laced throughout and playgoers will find Oliver as hilarious as ever in this his latest production.

Oliver is supported by accomplished actors, Glen Campbell, Camille Davis, Courtney Wilson, Belinda Reid, Chris Hutchinson and Megan Lewis.

River Bottom’s sole performance in Cayman will begin at 7:00p.m. Tickets for the event are $25 advance and $30 at the gate and are available at Funky Tangs, Impressions Beauty Salon, Money Express and all Reflections outlets.

The production has received enthusiastic support from local businesses and individuals and the Jewel of Cayman Lodge wishes to thank all sponsors for making the event possible and thereby bolstering the organisation’s community projects.
