Beware of thieves, say police

Published on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 Email To Friend    Print Version

Keep an eye on property and personal items, police warn residents after visitors reported last week that someone stole their bag on Public Beach in Grand Cayman.

Police were alerted to the theft at Public Beach, West Bay Road, at around 11:20 am on Thursday, 29 May. Officers attended and were informed by two cruise ship passengers that their bag had been stolen while they were swimming in the sea. An area search was carried out but unfortunately neither the bag nor the contents were located.

Although this type of theft is rare in the Cayman Islands, it highlights the need for people to be aware of their property and their surroundings at all times.

Anyone with information about crime taking place in the Cayman Islands should contact their local police station or Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 (TIPS). All persons calling Crime Stoppers remain anonymous, and are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000, should their information lead to an arrest or recovery of property/drugs.
